Recycling and waste

Recycling saves energy and raw materials, and it means less rubbish goes to landfill. Your council tells you what you can recycle at home and how it collects it. Many councils give separate bins or bags for paper, glass, plastic and food waste. Try to reduce waste in the first place and reuse things where you can.

Shopping and travelling greener

Buying food and goods from local shops and farmers supports local businesses. Local products travel shorter distances, so they usually cause less pollution than imported ones. Walking, cycling and using buses or trains instead of a car also cut pollution and traffic. Small choices like these help your area and the wider environment.
